What is Lent? 02/18/2010

Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a preparatory time for Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. All churches that have a continuous history extending before AD 1500 observe Lent. The ancient church that wrote, collected, canonized, and propagated the New Testament also observed Lent, believing it to be a commandment from the apostles.

There will be a very unexpected and unusual worship service with a twist in our worship this Sunday at 10:45 AM. Come see what God can do if we let him. This is a great worship experience where we will know God is in the unexpected things of life. In the spirit of this service wear something that no one would expect you to wear to church, fun but appropriate please (example a Tennessee fan wearing a Alabama t-shirt or your best track suit with sneakers). It will be fun and this is a great opportunity to invite friends to experience this "twisted" worship service.

There will be a drop off of kits on Monday (9am-1pm) at Brainerd UMC.  They want them boxed about 10 a box, securely taped, labled with the number of kits, and loaded on the pickup truck the conference will provide.  Also, we no longer are required to pack a check, toothpaste money or mailing money. For more info and instructions on assembling the kits visit the UMCOR Health Kit Page.

Pastor Amy will drop these kits off on Monday Morning.

We will also conduct a blessing and sending forth for our group going to the Resurrection 2010 Youth Conference in Gatlinburg, TN on Friday 22-24.

We invite you to join us for our Christmas Eve Service on December 24th at 11:00 AM. This is a special service as we conclude the Advent season. Our service starts early so you can spend more time with your family later in the day. We have had a great response to this early time.
